Predicting Australia’s Playing XI for their 2nd ODI against England

The T20I series between England and Australia ended in a draw and this 5-match ODI series is left to see who will be the most dominant team out of the two. It will be a cracker of a match in Headingley and these two teams will go at it again for the second time. Will it be the Aussies who will get the better of the Aussies or will the Poms emerge victorious to give the fans at Leeds a chance to celebrate?

Both the teams are currently even after the T20I series and though it will be the England side who will have the home advantage once again, no one can take the Aussies for granted. The ODI World champions will be looking to put their best game forward under the leadership of their new skipper Mitchell Marsh. It will be interesting to see who will be the players that will make it into the XI of the upcoming iconic match at Headingley.

So, here are the players who will be the potential players to feature in the playing XI for the Aussies in the upcoming game:

Top order- Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh(c) and Steven Smith

Looking at the Australian squad this seems to be the perfect top three that you can get with the explosive prowess of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head. Both these batters are known to attack from ball one and can put pressure on the English bowling attack straight away. Steven Smith on the other hand will be a perfect number 3 who can rotate the strike and play the long innings when the team requires.

Middle order- Cameron Green, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey(wk)

This will seem to be the perfect and balanced middle order in the ODI format with Cameron Green adding depth to the batting and bowling lineup of the team and Marnus Labuschagne has proven that he can build an innings in the ODI format as well. It might be a tough choice between Alex Carey and Inglis but Carey with his aggressive style and experience in the format might be the better pick.

Lower middle-order- Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Hardie

There might be a chance the Aussies could pick the likes of Glenn Maxwell who is a much better finisher than Matthew Short and more experienced. Aaron Hardie can also prove to be an asset to the team with his ability to play some great knocks down the order and bowl some important overs in the middle as well. There is no doubt this will be a dangerous lower middle order that will be capable of changing the game with their flamboyant style of cricket and will also add that extra depth to the playing XI.

Tail enders- Josh Hazlewood, Ben Dwarshuis and Adam Zampa

The likes of Josh Hazlewood would most likely come back in place of Sean Abbot who was struggling with his line and length in the first game. Ben Dwarshuis bowled a decent first spell and will most likely feature in the next game as well with the spin attack to be led by Adam Zampa with his guile and variation. This will most likely be the perfect specialist bowler who can give a bit of a chance to the Aussies in winning the 2nd ODI.

Australia’s predicted XI – Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh(c), Steven Smith, Cameron Green, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey(wk), Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Dwarshuis, Adam Zampa
