Pakistan Cricket team is on a tour to the island of the Kiwis for a three-match ODI series. New Zealand won the first two of the three fixtures convincingly played at McLean and Seddon Park. New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 73 and 84 runs, respectively, in the first two One Day Internationals to bag the 3-match series. Pakistan played good cricket in patches but failed to make the most of the chances that came their way in the first two encounters. Pakistan hasn’t managed to find a tried and tested eleven in this series so far. They will be looking to stage the right combination of players in the last of the three ODIs. The third ODI is set to begin on April 5th at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. While New Zealand will be looking to win the series Pakistan will be vying for a fight back to keep the series alive and ensure the third match is not just a dead rubber.
Here is the list of players who may make the cut in the Playing 11 for the final One Day International.
Asad Shafiq, Imamul Haq, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Imran, Faheem Ashraf, Salman Agha, Wasim Junior, Abrar Ahmed, Naseem Shah and Akif Javed
Pakistan’s spearhead Harris Rauf sustained a brutal injury in the second ODI of the 3-match series. He had to retire after he was hit on his helmet by a bouncer from New Zealand pacer Will O ‘Rourke. He may be rested for the third ODI not only because of the injury but also because of his sluggish form. The pace veteran has been taken to the cleaners by New Zealand batters. Rauf had conceded 76 runs off his 10 overs in the second ODI. Naseem Shah is likely to be a substitute for the Pakistani veteran in the last ODI.
Tayyab Tahir was added to the squad as a pure batter but failed to produce results. Irfan Khan Niazi could be a better choice as he is a more versatile batter who can play different roles in the middle order. He is also one of the best fielders in the current crop of Pakistani players. His ability with both bat and ball in hand makes him a better all-round choice for the 1992 World Cup winners.
