On this day, just a year ago, the Zimbabwe team won the third and last ODI match against Australia in Townsville, Australia. Notably, on September 3, 2022, the frailest team in cricketing history managed to get the win against the most successful team and the five-time World Cup champions.

Speaking about the match day, Zimbabwe skipper Regis Chakabva won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, it looked like the home team might cross 300 runs as the star opener David Warner struck a magnificent 94 runs from 96 balls, featuring fourteen boundaries and two sixes with a decent strike rate of 97, to give a flying start to his team. However, except for him, rest of the batters just departed after scoring the runs in a single digit.

Skipper Aaron Finch could only manage to get five runs, whereas star batter Steve Smith went for just one run. Following them, wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey only scored four runs, while the great all-rounder Marcus Stoinis made three runs before getting all out. Later, Cameron Green was dismissed for 3 runs, whereas RCB batter Glenn Maxwell stood up with Warner but couldn’t bat so long as he was also dismissed for 19 runs. Notably, the bowlers, namely Mitchell Starc scored 2 runs, while Ashton Agar and Josh Hazlewood departed for ducks. The home team could only set up 141 runs before getting bundled out by Zimbabwe.

Australia won the three-match ODI series 2-1

Notably, star bowler Ryan Burl had scalped five wickets, which dismantled Australia’s batting line-up. Later, while chasing, the visitors had a great start as their openers, Kaitano and Marumani, scored 19 and 35 runs, respectively. Later, in the end, skipper Regis Chakabva remained undefeated with 37 runs, along with Brad Evans, to guide his side to chase down the target with 66 balls remaining. Meanwhile, despite this loss, Aaron Finch’s side won the three-match series 2-1.
