OTD | Yuvraj Singh scripted history by becoming the first batter to hit six sixes in a T20I game in T20 World Cup 2007

The celebration of the T20 World 2024 where India won after 17 years was truly iconic and there is no doubt we will remember it for the rest of our lives. However,r it was the 2007 T20 World Cup that started the legacy of Indian cricket which had defied all the odds in cricket as the Men in Blue won the World Cup with a young and inexperienced side.

One of the heroes of the 2007 T20 World Cup was the flamboyant all-rounder Yuvraj Singh who had played some of the most memorable knocks during the event. Yuvraj scored 148 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 194 and played a huge part in the successful World Cup campaign under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. This is a World Cup where Yuvraj was responsible for some of the most iconic moments.

Yuvi creates history with 6 sixes in an over against England

There is a reason Yuvraj is regarded as one of the legendary figures in Indian cricket and this is one of the moments that has led to that. India was up against England in what was an almost-winn match for them. Yuvraj who had come out to bat in the 17th over started off his innings well. However, it was the 19th over when we were up for a surprise where Yuvraj smashed Stuart Broad for 6 sixes in an over and became the first batter to do that in T20 internationals as well.

This was one of the most memorable knocks from the southpaw which we all remember especially the encounter with Andrew Flintoff and the iconic commentary of Ravi Shastri. Yuvraj brought up his half-century in just 12 balls and this is still the joint fastest 50 in T20’s even today. This was the same day on the 19th of September and is one of the most iconic moments in the T20 World Cups which no Indian fan will ever forget.
