OTD| West Indies’ last-wicket pair completed 168-run chase against Pakistan in 2021

OTD| West Indies' last-wicket pair completed 168-run chase against Pakistan in 2021

Two years back, Pakistan toured the West Indies for T20I and Test series. Originally, it was a three-match Test and T20I series. However, the PCB requested to increase the T20Is to five, given it was the year of T20 World Cup. This decision led to Tests being decreased from three to two. Ironically, only one game of the five-match T20Is series could produce a result in Pakistan’s favor.

Talking about the Test series, the Asian side was favorites to win the series by 2-0 and gain some important points ahead of the grand home season. However, in the first game, it looked like the Babar Azam-led side was facing a top Test side. Debutant Jayden Seales took three wickets and the team was bowled out for 217. Only Fawad Alam (56) could reach the 50-run mark.

In reply, the home team didn’t have a great start as they had no answer to Pakistan pacers on a green top. Skipper Kraig Braithwaite (92) and Jason Holder (58) helped the team take a vital lead of 36 runs as they were bowled out for 253 runs. Shaheen Afridi took four wickets while Mohammad Abbas took three.

In the second innings, debutant Seales wreaked more havoc as he took his maiden five-wicket haul. Despite skipper Babar’s 55, the team was bowled out for 203 runs with other batters failing to apply themselves. In the fourth innings, the Caribbeans were asked to chase 168 runs.

Disguised as an easy target, once again Pakistani bowlers showed some fightback and reduced the opposition to 114/7. At this stage, Pakistan skipper applied the tactics of in and out field to stop the bleeding of runs. However, it eventually helped the home side chasing the target with one wicket in hand. Kemar Roach and Seales came to the rescue after the team lost nine wickets for 151 runs.
