During the India vs West Indies ODI game in Visakhapatnam, Virat Kohli scored 157 not out from 129 balls with 13 fours and 4 sixes. The then Indian skipper became the fastest batter to reach 10,000 runs in just 209 innings. The feat came in the third ball of the 37th over when Kohli pushed for a single against Ashley Nurse.
Virat Kohli had started the game on 9919 runs and once the milestone was achieved the crowd gave him a standing ovation. India ended their innings at 321/6 from their 50 overs with Ambati Rayudu scoring 73 off 80 balls. The game ended in a tie as Shai Hope scored 123 off 134 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Shimron Hetmyer scored 94 off 64 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes.
Sourav Ganguly was the 4th fastest to reach 10,000 runs when he got to the mark in 2005 against Sri Lanka in Dambulla. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting his fifth in the list with Jacques Kallis in 6th spot. Indian legend MS Dhoni is 7th in the list when he got his 10,000th run against England in his 273rd innings against England in 2018 at the home of cricket in Lords.
