On this day, back in 2013, India’s star cricketer S. Sreesanth and two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of spot-fixing in the IPL 2013. Notably, the police arrested Sreesanth from his friend’s home at that time, while the other two cricketers were arrested from the team’s hotel at Nariman Point owing to their spot-fixing during the 2013 IPL.
Meanwhile, this action came immediately when the players were on their way to the team’s hotel after the Rajasthan Royals suffered 14 runs of loss against the Rohit Dhaema-led Mumbai Indians. The police alleged that players were under scanners at that time for their spot-fixing role in some of the matches in the IPL 2013.
However, some sources revealed that the police also arrested two bookies from Mumbai and three from Delhi in the same connection. Notably, this act was totally a shock for the IPL authorities, as they were indulged in full controversies and scandals at that time since the league was started back in 2008.
Meanwhile, former Rajasthan Royals CEO Raghu Iyer was also shocked by their act and reiterated that they have zero tolerance for such unethical acts. However, the Indian Cricket Board also took serious action against them and ruled them out of the rest of the matches. This unethical act has dampened Sreesanth’s image very badly in the cricket fraternity.
“We have been informed that three of our players have been called in for investigation on spot fixing in matches. We are completely taken by surprise. We do not have the full facts at this point and are unable to confirm anything. We are in touch with the BCCI on this matter. We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. The management at Rajasthan Royals has a zero-tolerance approach to anything that is against the spirit of the game,” Rajasthan Royals said in the statement.
