OTD| Rohit Sharma hit the joint-fastest T20I Century at that time in 2017

Rohit Sharma is arguably the most attractive batter in world cricket when he is playing in full flow. He smashes giant sixes with finesse rather than power which makes him extra special and establishes him in a league of his own. On this day he made an explosive century against Sri Lanka which was the joint-fastest century at that time in 2017. The Indian captain played this knock in the second match of the T20 series between the two teams at Indore.

Rohit goes berserk

The Sri Lankan captain won the toss and opted to field first. The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started hitting around the park right from the first ball. They took no time in going hard at the opposition bowlers which put them under a lot of pressure. The Indian skipper took the initiative and exploited the power play to earn an edge in the contest. Rohit completed his century off just 35 balls which equaled the record of fastest century at that time which was held by David Miller.

Courtesy of a phenomenal innings from Rohit and backed up by KL Rahul’s half-century, India posted a humongous total of 260 runs in the first innings.

Sri Lanka – No match

Sri Lanka had a massive target to chase and they needed an impressive start to keep themselves in the contest. The Sri Lankan top order delivered as Kusal Perera and Upul Tharanga played impactful knocks but there were no major contributions from other players which caused a collapse after a brilliant start.

For India, the spinners created a big difference with the duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav ending up with 4 and 3 wickets respectively. The Men in Blue registered a massive victory by 88 runs to get an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was also adjudged the player of the match for his historic batting display.
