OTD | RCB were defeated by SRH in IPL 2016 final on May 29

On this day, back in 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore to win the IPL 2016 title at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. This was SRH’s magnificent win under David Warner’s leadership; however, Virat Kohli was the player of the tournament with over 900 runs in the marquee event. Interestingly, SRH ended up in the fourth spot in the points table, where they won three straight games—the eliminator, qualifier 2, and finals—to win the marquee event.

Speaking about the game here, it was SRH skipper David Warner who won the toss and decided to bat first in the game. Notably, after being opted to bat first, they had a great start as left-handed batter David Warner hammered 69 runs from 38 balls, featuring eight fours and three sixes, with a solid strike rate of 182, while Shikhar Dhawan made 28 runs from 25 balls, including three fours and one six.

Following them, M. Henriques departed for four runs, while star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh made 38 runs from 23 balls. In addition, Deepak Hooda was out for three runs, but it was Ben Cutting who made an unbeaten 39 runs from 15 balls, featuring three fours and four sixes with a 260-strike rate to help his side post a great total of 208/7 in the given 20 overs.

However, during the chase, RCB also had a great start as star opening batter Chris Gayle made 76 runs from 38 balls, featuring four boundaries and eight sixes with a solid strike rate of 200, while skipper Virat Kohli made 54 runs from 35 balls, including five fours and two sixes, with a 156-strike rate, for an amazing start.

However, after them, no other batter could contribute much for RCB, as AB de Villiers was out for 5 runs while KL Rahul made 11 runs. In addition, Stuart Binny made nine runs while Chris Jordan was out for three runs, making them fall short of just eight runs in the final game.
