OTD | Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis scored centuries to guide South Africa to a massive total of 438 runs against India in 2015

On this day in 2015, South Africa handed India a massive defeat by 214 runs. Quinton De Kock, AB De Villiers, and Faf Du Plessis played a massive role in guiding South Africa to this giant victory against the Men in Blue.

This massive victory came in a series decider in Mumbai at the Wankhede stadium. The series went through its ebbs and flows and finally resulted in a memorable South African victory on Indian soil.

Giant total in the first innings

The South African skipper AB De Villiers won the toss and elected to bat first. His plan was to put a huge total on the scoreboard in the first innings and put the Indians under pressure in a series decider.

De Kock and Amla opened the innings but their opening stand could not last long. Amla was dismissed quickly by Mohit Sharma. Du Plessis came on the crease and progressed the innings with De Kock at the other end, with utmost ease. Both of them forged a partnership of 133 runs to put South Africa in a very comfortable position.

After De Kock was dismissed for 109, the problems became graver for India because De Villiers absolutely blew India away. Du Plessis and De Villiers went on to build another gigantic partnership to completely outmuscle India.

Du Plessis had to go out because of a hamstring injury when he was playing at the score of 133 but his contribution was one of the prime reasons behind South Africa posting a huge total of 438 runs.

Tittering run chase

In reply, the Indians proved to be no match. South Africans did not allow the Indians to build formidable partnerships. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane were the more successful ones from the Indian camp. India ultimately got bundled out for 224 runs and as a result of it, lost a very tightly contested series. Kagiso Rabada was the most successful bowler for the South Africans who had 4 scalps to his name on that day. He was ably assisted by Dale Steyn and Imran Tahir.
