On this day, 29 years ago, Pakistan’s greatest batter, Babar Azam, was born in Lahore. Notably, Babar Azam was born into a cricketing family, and he is the cousin of former Pakistani cricketers Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, and Adnan Akmal. Being brought up in a cricketing family helped him develop sensational batting skills and proper guidance.

Notably, the 29-year-old cricketer currently places himself as the number-one ODI batter in the rankings. Babar Azam is currently in India for the ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Green had a great start as they defeated the Netherlands in their opening game of the marquee event, whereas they registered a historic win against Sri Lanka in their second clash. However, they suffered a big loss against Team India in their third game of the big tournament.

Babar Azam has been known as one of the finest batters in the history of world cricket. Notably, the Lahore-born cricketer is the only cricketer in the world who has been standing in the top 5 rankings across all the formats of the game. The stylish right-handed batter currently places himself in the fourth spot in Test cricket, whereas he is third in the T20 rankings after the key honour of the number one spot in the 50-over format.

Babar Azam is currently leading Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 

 

Pakistan’s batting star was the first skipper to defeat arch-rivals Team India by 10 wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup held in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In addition, Babar Azam guided his side in the finals of the Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup 2022 under his captaincy but suffered losses in the final game.

The great cricketer was appointed as the T20I skipper in 2019, and he guided his side to some great wins against tough opponents. In addition, the top-order batter was appointed ODI and Test skipper in 2020 owing to his magnificent leadership qualities. Notably, the Pakistan team currently places itself in the second spot in the ODI rankings and can gain the first spot by getting some more wins in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.
