Former New Zealand cricketer Corey Anderson is celebrating his 33rd birthday. The hard-hitting allrounder had his fair share of heyday, but now, he is sliding towards oblivion as he has retired from international cricket and is not getting enough favor in franchise leagues around the globe either. The left-handed all-rounder had the potential to be a long-term mainstay for the Kiwi team and his start to the international career was also very impressive.

The 33-year-old made his international debut for New Zealand in T20 cricket against South Africa on the away tour. Within a few months, he got the opportunity to represent New Zealand in ODI and Test cricket. In June 2013, he played his first One-Day international against England at Cardiff. Whereas, in test cricket, he made his debut against Bangladesh at Chattogram in the same year.

Slump After Initial Success

Corey Anderson’s international career started on a pretty impressive note with the all-rounder making an impact with his influential performances but he lost the bite as his career progressed. His performances in franchise leagues were also impressive in the initial phase of his career, especially in the IPL but there was a lack of consistency which harmed his spot in the New Zealand team.

The all-rounder had a brief career in test cricket where he played only 13 matches and made 683 runs along with 16 wickets to show his bowling credentials. In limited-overs cricket, he had more success compared to his test career. He represented New Zealand in 49 One-Day internationals where he scored 1109 runs at an average of 27.72. Whereas, with the ball, he picked up 60 wickets in ODI cricket at an impressive average of 25.03.

Corey Anderson’s T20 batting stats are also on similar lines as he amassed 485 runs at an average of 24.25. But he could not find much success with the ball in this format which is evident from his wickets tally. The all-rounder had only 14 scalps to his name in T20 internationals for New Zealand.
