On this day, just a year ago, the Netherlands team performed exceptionally well in the 2022 T20 World Cup and knocked out the South African side from the playoffs. Notably, Team India was in the top position in Group A and had already qualified for the semi-final race. However, there was competition between Pakistan and South Africa to get the second spot in the semi-final. Interestingly, the Netherlands beat in-form Proteas in their last game of the league stage, which allowed the Pakistan team to qualify for the semi-finals.

Speaking about the game here, South African skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and invited the Netherlands to bar first. Notably, after being sent to bat first, they had a decent start as Stephan Myburgh scored 37 runs while Max ‘Dowd got 29 runs in the game. Following them, Tom Cooper and Colin Ackermann got 35 and 41 runs, respectively, which boosted their middle order.

Later in the end, Bas de Leede and skipper Scott Edwards piled up 1 and 12 runs, respectively, which guided them to post just 158/4 in the given 20 overs. Meanwhile, Keshav Maharaj gets two wickets, while Aiden Markram and Anrich Nortje scalp one wicket each.

However, during the chase, left-handed batsman Quinton de Kock was out for just 13 runs, while skipper Temba Bavuma piled up 20 runs. Following them, Rilee Rossouw and Aiden Markram scored 25 and 17 runs, respectively. Later, David Miller, Heinrich Klassen, and Keshav Maharaj tried extremely hard to chase down the total, but they could not cross the finishing line as they were only able to get 145/8 in the given 20 overs.

This great performance by the Dutch team shattered the hopes of the South African team to win the trophy during the 2022 T20 World Cup held in Australia. Notably, the tournament was won by England as they thrashed the Pakistan team in the final. On the other hand, Team India and New Zealand lost the game in the semi-final.
