OTD | Madhya Pradesh clinched their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2022

26th June 2022 will be remembered always by the Madhya Pradesh (MP) domestic Cricket fans as the team lifted their maiden Ranji Trophy title on this day. They defeated the 42-time champion Mumbai in the final by 6 wickets with the help of a brilliant batting performance.

Talking about the match, Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first and the openers started pretty well as both Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to score 50+ runs. However, the hero of Mumbai’s innings was Sarfaraz Khan who smashed 134 runs and helped the team to achieve a big total of 374 runs.

However, MP had a better response with their bat as they managed to get an even bigger total of 536 runs with the help of 3 centurions Yash Dubey, Shubham Sharma and Rajat Patidar. It was pretty impressive to see these batters show up on a bigger platform too when it was much needed.

When Mumbai came to bat in their 2nd innings, the openers were under pressure as the lead was pretty big. Also, there was a change in the opening pair as Shaw entered the ground with Hardik Tamore who helped the team to get a better start but MP’s Kumar Kartikeya turned things around as he destroyed Mumbai’s middle order with 4 wickets.

With the help of a brilliant bowling performance, Madhya Pradesh restricted Mumbai to just 269 runs. MP were given then an achievable target of 108 runs which they achieved with 6 wickets remaining. Shubham Sharma was named Player of the Match for his brilliant knocks of 116 and 30 runs in 1st and 2nd innings respectively.
