On this day former legend of Pakistan cricket Javed Miandad completed 3000 runs in his ODI career. He achieved this milestone in his 100th ODI playing against West Indies at Multan. In the 4th match of the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies, Miandad shattered the 3000-run mark.

First innings

In the first innings of a curtailed match, West Indies batted first and put up 202 runs in their quota of 44 overs. Richie Richardson and Desmond Haynes added 50 runs for the first wicket but both of them got out in quick succession reducing West Indies to 51/2. Viv Richards also could not score big as he was dismissed very early in the innings for just 4 runs.

Larry Gomes and Gus Logie stitched a partnership to rescue West Indies out of the crisis. Finally, West Indies managed to cross the 200-run mark giving a stiff challenge to Pakistan’s batting unit to chase this tricky total.

Second Innings

The target was a challenging one considering the strength of the West Indian bowling attack. Pakistan could not get off to a good start as they lost wickets in the early phase. Pakistan lost 4 wickets as they managed to put 30 runs on the board. Malcolm Marshall and Courtney Walsh bowled exceptionally well with the new ball forcing the Pakistan top order to make mistakes.

Amongst all the chaos Javed Miandad stood strong at one end. Along with Imran Khan, he added 64 runs to keep Pakistan in the contest. But once Imran Khan was dismissed by Tony Gray, Pakistan lost the plot as they witnessed a major collapse. Javed Miandad was also sent back by Tony Gray but Miandad did not leave without giving a fight. He played a gutsy knock of 30 runs off 76 balls. Eventually, Pakistan was bowled out for 113 runs and lost the match by 89 runs.
