There have been many great spinners in the Indian team who have given great performances for their team. We all have celebrated all of our legendary spinners right from the great Anil Kumble to the willy and intelligent Ravichandran Ashwin. These two are no doubt one of the pioneers of spin bowling in their generation, but there have still been a lot of great spinners representing the Men in Blue who have given some impactful performances.
One of the spinners who has been a phenomenon in white ball cricket is Yuzvendra Chahal. The wrist spinner has been a great wicket-taker in both the 50-over and the 20-over format with 217 wickets in international cricket. It is safe to say he has been one of the best spinners in Indian cricket right now and has kept on giving consistent performances with the ball. It is time to talk about this talented individual who will be turning 34 years old today on 23rd June 2024.
From chess champion to highest Indian wicket-taker in T20’s
Unlike any other cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal first chose to pursue the game of Chess and also represented the country in the game. However, he could not find a sponsor and moved on to cricket. This is where his sporting career began to touch the sky after he won the Champions League T20 in 2011 with Mumbai Indians and now has gone on to be the highest Indian wicket-taker in T20 with 354 wickets in 305 games. Chahal is currently the highest wicket-taker in IPL as well and is the first bowler to breach the 200-wicket mark in the franchise league.
This is an inspiring story of how a struggling chess champion went on to become one of the greatest spinners India has ever produced. Chahal is currently a T20 World Champion as well. This has been a great career to witness where Chahal might not be the biggest turner of the ball but has the ability to trap any batter with his wit and variations. He is one of the biggest stars in Indian cricket who has given us great performances and we all should appreciate his service to Indian cricket.
