India’s star T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav was born on September 14, 1990. Surya, the current T20I skipper of India, has played in all the formats but has excelled in white-ball cricket. He’s one of the most talented players on the Indian team and knows how to take responsibility well.
Surya was a part of the Indian team that won the Asia Cup in 2023 and the T20 World Cup in 2024. His contributions have been valuable to the team, and as a result, he was responsible for the Indian team in the T20I format.
He made his Test debut in 2023 against Australia and has played only one match until now. On the other hand, he made his ODI debut in 2021 and has concreted his place in the team. He’s a consistent scorer, so the BCCI prefers to take him during tours.
In T20Is, he made his debut in March 2021. He is considered as the best batter because of his four centuries in the T20Is, the second most by any male batter. In the domestic set-up, he plays for Mumbai, and in the IPL, he has played for multiple franchises, including KKR and Mumbai Indians.
In 37 ODI matches, he scored 773 runs, batting at No. 5. He has scored four half-centuries in the format as he hasn’t gotten much opportunity. In T20Is, he has played 71 matches and 2432 runs, averaging 42.66. Moreover, he plays with a strike rate of 168.65.
He has scored 20 half-centuries and four centuries in the shortest format of the game, which is why he was allowed to become India’s skipper. He captained against Sri Lanka in July and helped India whitewash the hosts. It was a good way to start his career and he’ll definitely look to continue with the same series.
