OTD | Indian Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden Test century in 1990 against England

The world’s greatest batter, Sachin Tendulkar, has been a fan favorite since the start of his career. He was a wonderful batter with orthodox shot selections and a classic display of batting. While he has also bowled in his career, his batting was top-notch. He has several accolades under his name, starting from 100 centuries in all the formats of the game. While the other records can be broken, this particular record remains under his name forever because hitting 100 Centuries isn’t everybody’s cup of tea.

But Sachin’s story is unique, isn’t it? He played at such a young age and played for a really long time. That was the highlight of his career, other than the records. Moreover, Sachin’s first century came in 1990 against England. While playing against such a strong bowling line-up, the young Sachin was brave enough to hit them for boundaries and sixes quite confidently. Batting at No.6, he scored 119 runs off 189 balls, including 17 boundaries. He was phenomenal against the entire bowling line-up the likes of Mike Atherton, Angus Fraser, and many more.

His confidence was something that helped him score more and more runs throughout his career. From scoring his first century till 2013, Sachin played in 200 Test matches, the most played by any batter. He played 463 ODIs as well and scored 18426 runs at an average of 44.83. In ODIs, he scored 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries with a best score of 200*. Also, he was the first batter to score a double century in the ODIs.
