The experienced right-arm off-spinner from Haryana, Jayant Yadav, is celebrating his 34th birthday today. Jayant has been a regular feature in domestic cricket and he has a wealth of first-class and List A experience. He has been playing for Haryana for a long time and has played for various IPL franchises as well.

After a long toil in domestic cricket and IPL, Jayant Yadav got a maiden call-up for the national team in 2016. He made his international debut in October 2016 against New Zealand in an ODI game at Visakhapatnam. The economical off-spinner soon got an opportunity to don the Test jersey for India. In November 2016 he made his Test debut against England at the same venue.

In and around the setup

Jayant Yadav’s start to his Test career was underwhelming with the ball, however, he was outstanding with the bat and smashed a century in his debut series against England. The off-spinner could not cement his place in the Indian team but he has been in and around the national team setup. After 2017 he featured in the Test team in 2021 and his last Test appearance for India was in 2022 when he played a Test match against Sri Lanka at Mohali.

Jayant has played 6 Test matches for India apart from 2 One-Day internationals. He has picked up 16 wickets in Test cricket along with 248 runs which also included a century. In the One-Day format, he only has 1 wicket to his name.

Though his national team stint did not last long, he had a very expansive first-class career. Jayant has played 80 first-class matches for Haryana where he has picked up 225 wickets. The off-spinner has also been a part of Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Titans in IPL. Jayant lifted the IPL title in 2020 with Mumbai Indians. He is a player who will always be distinguished for his ability to achieve success with limited resources.
