The Indian team has had some of their successful years in the 2000s and 2010s. This was also the era where we were introduced to Captain Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who took the cricketing world by storm not only as a swashbuckling wicketkeeper batter but as a leader of the Men in Blue as well. This is one of the careers that we could never forget as Indian cricket fans at all.
This era also saw MS Dhoni win India the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 with a very young and inexperienced side. If that was not enough the Indian skipper also won the World Cup in 2011 which was India’s first World Cup win after 28 years since 1983. If you thought that was all MSD had in store for us he was yet to surprise us in his career which has already been a great one to witness.
The 2013 Champions Trophy triumph
The year was 2013 and we could say it was a slightly dark period for Indian cricket with top players retiring and having a terrible 2012 T20 World Cup. The Champions Trophy saw the Indian team go with another inexperienced squad and the chances of winning it were really low. However, Dhoni still did the impossible and gave us some great heroes in the tournament in the form of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Ravindra Jadeja who played a big role in keeping India undefeated into the final where they were facing England in their home ground.
However, there was an interruption at Edgbaston which made it a 20-over game where India managed to scrape through to a score of 129. Everyone thought that England might chase it down easily, but the Spin twins Ashwin and Jadeja made sure they were still in the fight. This was one of the most dramatic finals it was the 23rd of June where MS Dhoni and his men won their third major ICC title and won the game by 5 runs. This also made him the Only Indian skipper with all three ICC trophies to his name as well.
