OTD | India and Pakistan greats Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis made their debuts in 1989

The day 15th of November was the day when we all were introduced to two of the biggest legends in cricket as Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistani ace paceman made their Test Debut in international cricket and faced each other for the first time. It was great to see two legends facing themselves on the same day and both achieving greatness.

We all love our legends of the game and one of the biggest legends in the India and Pakistan rivalries were Sachin Tendulkar and Waqar Younis. While Waqar emerged as one of the most lethal fast bowlers to ever play for Pakistan, Tendulkar became the greatest batter to ever play and broke several records during his career. These two have been the pioneers of the sport during their time on the field.

The two greats meet each other

The year was 1989 and it was the Test debut of two of the upcoming prodigies with an 18-year-old Waqar and a 16-year-old Tendulkar coming onto the pitch in Karachi. Pakistan had put up a score of 409 in the first innings and it was time for the Indian innings. A young Tendulkar was up against one of the best fast bowlers and impressed everyone with two great boundaries, but eventually, Waqar got the better of him and dismissed him for just 15 and bowled a great spell in the end. Little did we know it was the beginning of something big.

This was where the two started and though we have not seen a lot of battles between them they have still gone on to achieve great things in the game. While Tendulkar went on to score more than 34000 runs in international cricket, Waqar Younis went on to complete his international career with over 750 wickets. It is great to know that on the same day, we got to see the start of two great cricketing careers.
