On this day, back in 2022, the Gujarat Titans won the IPL title in their inaugural edition after defeating the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals side at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, this win by the Gujarat Titans has helped Hardik Pandya become the potential leader in white-ball formats, and his success for GT has allowed him to become the skipper of his old franchise, the Mumbai Indians.
Speaking about the game here, it was Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson who had won the toss and decided to bat first. However, after opting to bat first, they had a very decent start, as Yashasvi Jaiswal could only make 22 runs from 16 balls in one four and two sixes, while Jos Buttler hammered 39 runs from 35 balls, including five boundaries in the game.
For them, skipper Sanju Samson made 14 runs, while Devdutt Padikkal was out for 2 runs. In addition, star cricketer Shimron Hetmyer made just 11 runs, while star all-rounder Ashwin could get just 6 runs. However, Riyan Parag tried hard, but he was also departed for just 15 runs along with Trent Boult, as the left-arm pacer also made 11 runs, which helped them post 130/9 in the given 20 overs.
However, during the chase, the Gujarat Titans had an awful start as Wriddhiman Saha was out for just five runs while star batter Matthew Wade departed for eight runs. Meanwhile, it was star batter Shubman Gill who made 45 runs and stitched the stand with skipper Hardik Pandya, who also hammered 34 runs to help his side stand in the dominant position. Following them, South African star batter David Miller made unbeaten 32 runs from 19 balls, featuring three boundaries and one six, with a magnificent strike rate of 169 to help the Gujarat Titans win the IPL title in their inaugural edition.
