Take a look at one of the historic World Cup innings which was played on the 7th of November where Glenn Maxwell single-handedly won Australia the game against Afghanistan despite suffering from major cramps throughout the match. This was one of the best innings we have ever seen from the Big Show to save his side from a massive upset in World Cups which could have haunted them for a long time.
The 2023 World Cup was one of the most iconic World Cups for the Aussies who had beaten the Indians in India to win their 6th title. However, it was the game against Afghanistan that was the most iconic victory in the tournament where the Aussies won out of the jaws of defeat thanks to a magnificent knock from Glenn James Maxwell who became a hero for the nation.
The Big Show came to the party
The Afghans had put up a respectable total of 291 thanks to the century from Ibrahim Zadran. Looking at how the Afghanistan bowlers responded it looked like another upset was on the cards with the score at 91-7.
But then came Glenn Maxwell who not only formed a 200+ 8th wicket partnership with Pat Cummins but played one of the iconic knocks of 201 runs from just 128 deliveries. The innings included 21 fours and 10 sixes and it was a one-man show that took the Aussies on this occasion.

Apart from that Maxwell was suffering from some cramps that made it difficult for him to run throughout the innings as well. This was about to be one of the biggest upsets in ODI World Cup history but it turns out Maxwell had other plans and became one of the unsung heroes for Australia and has continued to play major roles in white ball cricket going forward. This was one of the most special innings we have ever seen in cricket history which is difficult to forget.
