In this article, we will discuss On This Day | Former West Indies spinner Samuel Badree was born in 1981. Former West Indies leg-spinner Samuel Badree has turned 43 today. Whenever spinners from the Caribbean are talked about, one name always gets overlooked: Samuel Badree. He is as underrated a player as there ever could be. Badree played T20I cricket for West Indies and achieved phenomenal success in the shortest format of the game.

The leg-spinner from Trinidad made his international debut after he had attained the age of 30. It was a late entry for Samuel Badree in international cricket but he really made that count. He toiled hard in domestic cricket for years and finally got the reward in 2012 when he was given an opportunity to make his debut in T20I cricket against New Zealand. Well, Badree had to wait for a long time to break into the West Indies team but destiny had timed his debut perfectly. The leg-spinner made his debut in the T20 World Cup year

World Cup glory

Samuel Badree impressed the team management with his performances which got him a place in the squad for the 2012 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka. West Indies went on to win their first-ever T20 World Cup defeating the hosts Sri Lanka in the final. Badree played four matches in that tournament including the final and picked as many wickets playing an instrumental role in the glorious campaign for West Indies. In the final, he bowled an economical spell in which he conceded only 24 runs and took the most important wicket of Kumar Sangakkara.

Samuel Badree unfortunately could not play for West Indies in the other two formats of the game but to his pleasure, he experienced the glory that many players do not get to experience. He represented West Indies in 52 T20Is picking up 56 wickets at an average of 21.07. The former T20 World Cup winner played his last international match in 2018 at the same venue where he started his international career, Lauderhill.
