Sri Lankan cricket has been known to give us some great bowlers, whether it is brilliant spinners like Muttiah Muralitharan and Rangana Herath or great pacers like Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga. There is no doubt the island nation has been known to have one of the most underrated bowling attacks we have ever seen in the game of cricket which has won them a lot of games.
Though most of these bowlers have gone onto play long years for the nation, there are also some who deserve more credit than they are getting right now. The year 1983 was not only the birth of Indian Cricket, but also the birth of one of the underrated pacers of Sri Lanka on the 30th of May known as Dhammika Prasad, who was one of the promising pacers in the Sri Lankan team even in his slightly limited career.
The under appreciated pacer in the 2000’s and early 2010’s
We all might not remember Dhammika as a legendary figure in Sri Lankan cricket, but we still have to appreciate his contribution in the game. He has still given us some great performances during his career which we all should appreciate. Dhammika was a much quicker bowler than he looked and could even touch speeds of above 140 when in his prime. He might have only featured in only 50 international games but still managed to take 107 wickets.
His average and economy might be slightly high at times, but he still managed to bowl some brilliant spells in ODI and Test matches. He definitely would have got a much better career if it wasn’t for some major injuries that caused a bit of damage. Despite this we still have to give him credit for being a wonderful servant to Sri Lankan cricket, who still managed to give his best and make sure he gave some great performances even against some top Test playing nations.
