OTD | Former Netherlands all-rounder Ryan Ten Doeschate was born in 1980

On this day, former Netherlands star all-rounder Ryan Ten Doeschate was born on June 29, 1980. Ten Doeschate is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers to have ever represented the Netherlands. A talented all-rounder, Ten Doeschate made his debut for the Netherlands in 2001 and went on to play a crucial role in the team’s success in the following years. 

He was a dominant force with the bat, scoring over 1541 runs at an impressive average of 67, and also took 55 wickets with the ball. Ten Doeschate’s impressive performances earned him recognition beyond the Associate cricket circuit. He played for Essex in English county cricket and also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Despite his success at the international level, Ten Doeschate remained committed to the Netherlands team, leading the team in various tournaments, including the ICC World Cup and the ICC World Twenty20. His leadership and experience played a vital role in the team’s growth and development. 

Ten Doeschate’s contributions to Dutch cricket have been immense, and he continues to be an inspiration for young cricketers in the Netherlands. He was also part of Kolkata Knight Riders’ coaching staff who recently won their 2nd IPL title Ten Doeschate’s impressive career has earned him numerous accolades, including the ICC Associate Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2010. He was also named the Dutch Player of the Year multiple times, a testament to his dedication and passion for the sport. 

Despite his retirement from international cricket in 2021, Ten Doeschate’s legacy continues to inspire the next generation of Dutch cricketers. His contributions to the sport have helped raise the profile of cricket in the Netherlands, and his achievements serve as a reminder of the country’s potential in the international cricket arena.
