OTD | Former India all-rounder Chandu Borde was born in 1934

Chandu Borde was a part of the Indian Cricket Team between 1958 and 1970. He was a beautiful batter and a brilliant bowler of his time. He made his first-class debut in India’s 1952/53 domestic season. His test debut came against West Indies, and after his retirement, he became a cricket administrator and twice served as India’s chairman of selectors.

However, he has played only Test cricket and never really got a chance to play ODIs. He played some quality shots against the most lethal and dangerous bowlers in the world and that’s how his name was written in the history books. He is one of the best all-rounders in India, and he is not only impressed with his batting but also with his bowling. Borde has never shied away from striking the ball which came into his slot and that made him the best batter of his time.

He was a class batter and has played around 55 Test matches scoring 3061 runs at an average of 35.59. He has also scored five centuries and 18 half-centuries and his highest score is 177. He has played a lot of first-class cricket as well which shaped him truly as a batter. Overall, he has played 251 matches and scored 12805 runs at an average of 40.91. He has scored 30 centuries and 160 half-centuries. His highest score was 207 runs.

In bowling, he had taken 52 wickets in 55 Test matches at an average of 46.48. In first-class cricket, he has taken 331 wickets in 251 matches with an average of 27.32. He has 14 five-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket hauls in first-class cricket.
