On this day, back in 2018, the England cricket team hammered the massive total of 481/6 in ODI cricket to set the highest run score. Notably, this was the third ODI game played between England and Australia at Trent Bridge Cricket Stadium. Amazingly, the Aussies have won the first two ODIs out of the five games; however, the hosts have marked their magnificent comeback in the last three ODIs to win the series by 3-2. England crushed the visiting side by 242 runs after facing a defeat in the first two fixtures.
Speaking about the game here, it was Australia skipper Tim Paine who had won the toss and invited hosts to bat first in the game. Notably, after being sent to bat first in the game, the side got off to a wonderful start. Opening batter Jason Roy made 82 runs from 61 balls featuring seven fours and four sixes, while Jonny Bairstow struck out 139 runs from 92 balls featuring 15 fours and five sixes with a solid strike rate of 152. However, later, the flamboyant batter Alex Hales stole the limelight after making 147 runs from 92 balls, featuring 16 fours and five sixes and a magnificent strike rate of 160.
Wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler was sent back to the pavilion for 11 runs, while England skipper Eoin Morgan made 67 runs from 30 balls, including three fours and six sixes, to help his side post the greatest total in the history of ODI cricket.
Meanwhile, during the chase, the visiting side had an awful start as Short was dismissed for just 15 runs while Travis Head made 51 runs from 39 balls. Following them, Shaun Marsh made 24 runs, while all-rounder Marcus Stoinis struggled for 44 runs. Without them, no other batters could stand at the crease, and they failed to stitch the stand to somehow reach near the total. The visiting team was bundled out for just 239 runs and lost the game by 242 runs.
