West Indies have produced some swashbuckling stars over the years. The likes of Sir Vivian Richards, Brian Lara, or the quartet of pacers who beat the best teams come to mind. In the current era, the name Christopher Henry Gayle is considered a modern-day legend.

Chris Gayle or ‘The Universal Boss’ had fans go crazy with the bat in hand for over two decades. The youngster from Jamaica made his debut in late 1999 but it took him a few years to ingrain himself as a player. The introduction of T20 cricket was seen as a huge factor in making Chris Gayle the batter he went on to become.

By the time he ended his career, Chris Gayle had done everything as a batter in the game. The left-handed batter left a huge legacy behind that the cricket world still misses to this day.

West Indies and India faced each other in a three-match ODI series in late 1999 in Toronto. This was the game that Chris Gayle was seen for the first time. Chris Gayle played a total of 301 matches and scored 10,480 with 25 centuries and 54 fifties with an average of 37. Gayle became the first-ever West Indian batter to score a double century in ODI cricket against Zimbabwe.

The Jamaica-based star made his Test debut in 2000 against Zimbabwe and scored 33 runs. Chris Gayle became the first batter in the history of Test cricket when he hit Sohag Gazi for a huge six. In his final Test innings, the former West Indian cricket star scored 64 and nine not out to help his side win the game.

In the T20I format, Chris Gayle became the first-ever batter to score a century in the T20 World Cup in 2007. The left-handed batter played 79 matches and scored 1899 runs with 2 centuries and 14 fifties.

In the Indian Premier League, Chris Gayle played for three teams, Kolkata knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings. The West Indian legend played 142 games and scored 4965 runs with 6 centuries and 31 fifties with an average of 39 and strike rate of 148.96 during his long career.
