OTD| Deepak Chahar registered best T20I figures with his 6-wicket haul against Bangladesh in 2019

OTD| Deepak Chahar registered best T20I figures with his 6-wicket haul against Bangladesh in 2019

On this day in 2019, Deepak Chahar bowled his best spell of his T20 career as he picked up 6 wickets for just 7 runs. He achieved this feat against Bangladesh in Nagpur. It was the third match of the T20 series against Bangladesh and Chahar decimated the Bangladesh batting lineup.

India posted a challenging target

The Indian team batted first in this match and put up a tricky total on the board for Bangladesh to chase. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer made half-centuries and batted with an aggressive outlook to take India to 174/5. Manish Pandey played a quick cameo to provide the final flourish.

Bangladesh stunned in the run chase

Deepak Chahar gave the first blow to Bangladesh by dismissing the wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das very early in the run chase. The very next ball he sent Soumya Sarkar back with a beautiful delivery. Chahar put Bangladesh under tremendous pressure in his initial spell.

Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Mithun stitched a partnership to give some solidity to the run chase but once again Chahar did the trick by dismissing Mithun and breaking a crucial partnership that could have been dangerous for India.

In the later phase of the run chase, Chahar picked up other three wickets and was quick to wrap up the Bangladesh batting order without allowing them any chance to make a comeback in the contest. He picked up the last three wickets of the match by dismissing Aminul Islam, Shafiul Islam, and Mustafizur Rahman.

Eventually, India bagged the match comfortably in the end by 30 runs and clinched the series with a dominating performance in the series decider. Deepak Chahar was adjudged player of the match for his intimidating spell. This remains the best spell of his T20 career. The all-rounder is hopeful of making a comeback to the Indian team with the hopes of finding a place in the squad for the T20 World Cup next year in the West Indies and USA.
