OTD David Warner became only the fifth batter to score a century before lunch on the first day of a Test in 2017

David Warner is one of the most dominant openers in world cricket and he likes to dominate the opposition from the word go. Warner plays with a positive frame of mindset in every format which is visible from his batting performances. On this day David Warner played one of those innings where he completely decimated the opposition. In the very first session of a test match, he completed his century and became only the 5th batter to do so.

Pakistan under the pump

Australia had already sealed the series with back-to-back victories in the first two matches of the test series. In Sydney, the Kangaroos intended to give a final blow to Pakistan and clean sweep the opposition. Steve Smith won the toss for Australia and opted to bat first in order to put runs on the board. David Warner was ruthless in his approach and he did not take any time to launch himself.

The Pakistan bowlers had no clue about how to prevent Warner from blowing them out of the contest in the very first session. Mohammad Amir, Imran Khan, and Wahab Riaz looked absolutely toothless as they did not get any success in the first session. On the other end, Matt Renshaw was resolute in his approach and complemented Warner in the onslaught by keeping his wicket intact. The left-handed opener completed his century off just 78 balls and ultimately went back to the pavilion with 113 runs to his name. He played with an explosive strike rate of 118.94 and his knock included 17 boundaries.

With this mind-boggling knock, David Warner joined the elite list of batters who had scored a century in the first session of a test match which included the likes of Victor Trumper, Charles Macartney, Sir Don Bradman, and Majid Khan. Eventually, Australia won the match by a massive margin of 220 runs to clinch the series by 3-0.
