Australia retained the Ashes in 1993
The 1993 series was an important series for the Aussies who failed to win the World Cup in 1992 at home failing to reach the playoffs. This Ashes was played in England and somehow Australia already had the upper hand leading the series 2-0. The match at Headingley was a do-or-die match for England, but also a chance for Australia to retain the series. The 4th Test started in Australia’s favour as skipper Allan Border, David Boon and Steve Waugh made sure the Aussies got to a 650+ total in the first innings.
The Poms in reply were bowled out for just 200 and the Aussies enforced a follow-on in this match. They tried to fight back in the match but in the end, the Aussies were all over the England batters and won the game by an innings and 148 runs. It was on this day of 26th July 1993 that Australia retained the Ashes and completely dominated their arch-rivals. This was a day when we started to believe that Australia was beginning to be a dominating force in cricket.
