South Africa has produced a lot of cricketers who can bat and bowl well. In an era where Jacques Kallis dominated proceedings, there was a cricketer named Andrew Hall who turned out to be a cricketer for all seasons. On the 31st of July, Andrew Hall turns 49 and his life is nothing short of amazement.

When he was in his 20s, Andrew Hall twice survived an attempt on his life. The first instance was when he was shot just outside the ATM but then somehow made it to the hospital with the help of his family. After being bedridden for a few days in less than three weeks, Hall was back on the field.

The second attempt was when two people posing as potential car buyers tried to carjack him and pointed their guns at the South African. Despite all these trials and tribulations, Andrew Hall became a South African cricketer and left a huge mark in the game.

Andrew Hall: True Warrior

Andrew Hall

Young Andrew Hall made his domestic debut in 1994 in the List A format and in the First Class format a year later. The presence of players like Jaques Kallis, Hansie Cronje, Shaun Pollock, and Lance Klusener meant that Andrew Hall had to bid his team.

This didn’t deter the South African as he finally got to make his international debut in the ODI format. In his debut game, Andrew Hall scored 9 runs with the bat and went wicketless in the 7 overs that he bowled.

During his career, Hall was known to be a terrific seamer with decent speed and with good variations with the ball. His debut in Test cricket came in early 2002 when he played against Australia.

Andrew Hall got off the mark in Test cricket with a fighting 70 runs from 141 balls with 10 fours in his debut knock. The right-arm seamer went wicketless in both innings and failed to get off the mark in the 2nd dig.

Declining performances meant that he played his last few games in the years of 2006 and 2007. By the time he quit cricket, Andrew Hall was known to be a handy player with immense heart and dedication.

Andrew Hall played 21 Tests and scored 706 runs with 1 century and 3 fifties and also picked 45 wickets. In the ODI format he played 88 games scoring 905 runs with 3 fifties and picked 95 wickets. Hall played just 2 T20I matches for South Africa and scored 11 runs while picking 3/22 with the ball which were his only wickets in this format of the game.
