OTD| Aaron Finch scored 172 runs against Zimbabwe to register the highest T20I score

Five years ago today, former Australian captain Aaron Finch crushed Zimbabwe while smashing 172 off 76 balls to establish an all-time T20I world milestone. The T20 encounter between Australia and Zimbabwe on July 3, 2018, seemed like a battle between two inequitable sides, which was apparent from the very beginning. Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza invited the Australian side led by skipper Aaron Finch to bat first after winning the toss in Harare. Once Australia commenced batting, Aaron Finch, the captain, and their opening partner, D’Arcy Short, stepped out and handed their team an early boost.

The feeble Zimbabwean bowling lineup seemed defenseless against Finch’s disastrous attack. The stylish right-handed batter blasted his 50 in just 22 balls, making most of the powerplay. There had been more than 100 runs on the scoreboard at the end of the 10th over, and it looked like the Australian team maintained sole possession of the game at that point. Finch, however, earned his century in only fifty balls and seemed to be hungry for even more. He subsequently surpassed his 156-run aggregate score against England and established an all-time T20I career batting milestone.

Australia defeated the hosts by restricting them to 129/9

Australia defeated Zimbabwe by a margin of 100 to keep up their three-match series winning record. Australia defeated the hosts by restricting them to 129/9 after gathering an enormous score of 229/2 in 20 overs. Australia seized charge of the contest early on owing to the brutal and ruthless diligence of the top-order batter, who blasted an unparalleled 172 runs. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, got off to an excellent start during their innings, but quickly conceded wickets later on. The bowler who emerged with the most impressive figures was Andrew Tye, who achieved 3/12 in 4 overs.

The added pressure of attempting to get to 230 led Zimbabwe’s batting lineup to completely collapse as wickets continued to tumble constantly. By the time the set 20 overs were up, it had only accumulated 129 runs, losing nine wickets in the process.
