Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener for Rajasthan Royals (RR), broke the record for the fastest half-century in Indian Premier League (IPL) history on May 11, 2023. In the match at Eden Gardens against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he hit the milestone off just 13 balls. KL Rahul and Pat Cummins held the previous IPL record with 50 runs off 14 balls. After completing the milestone half-century, the left-handed batter continued and hit the game-winning runs for his team to stay undefeated with 98 off 47 balls, a knock that included five sixes and twelve fours. 

Jaiswal was extraordinary from the beginning of the innings. The 21-year-old inexperienced player who scored 26 runs attacked the KKR captain Nitish Rana when he came on to bowl the opening over of the innings in what appeared to be an experiment. The player welcomed Rana into the attack with 6,6,4,2,4 in the over. Despite being engaged in a run out of his partner Jos Buttler in the second over, Jaiswal did not allow it to impact his innings and carried on at the same pace. 

With 41 balls left, his 13-ball half-century saw the Men in Pink win by 9 wickets, including a boundary from an overthrow, which was the fault of skipper Rana of the KKR. Jaiswal had an incredible IPL season; in addition to his 98 in this game, the left-hander had previously scored an IPL century in that season. With 575 runs in 12 games in the 2023 season, he also held the second-highest run score on the list. It was indeed a brilliant season for him as he played some beautiful knocks and helped RR win quite a lot of matches.
