OTD, 2022: Mumbai made first-class history when they beat Uttarakhand by 725 runs in the 2022 Ranji Trophy quarter-final

On this day, back in 2022, the Mumbai Cricket team made history as they defeated Uttarakhand by 725 runs in the quarterfinal of the Ranji Trophy. However, despite this history, the Mumbai side suffered a defeat against Madhya Pradesh in the final game. Notably, the Mumbai side gets the biggest win by runs in first-class cricket to march into the Ranji Trophy semi-finals.

Speaking about the game here, it was Mumbai skipper Prithvi Shaw who had won the toss and invited Uttarakhand camp to bowl first in the game. Notably, after being elected to bat first, Mumbai posted 647 runs before declaring their innings. Their side, however, had a bad start as Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal were just about to pile up 21 and 35 runs, respectively. However, Arman Jaffer stepped up and made 60 runs, while Suved Parkar was the star of the game as he hammered 252 runs and Sarfaraz Khan made 153 runs, which boosted their middle order in the game. Following them, Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotain made 59 and 28 runs, which helped them post the great total.

However, during the chase, the Uttarakhand side was bundled out for just 114 runs, as only star opening batter Kamal Singh was able to get 40 runs while Robin Bist piled up 25 runs. However, all the batters were departed after scoring runs in just a single digit, which makes them post the lowest total on the board after the first inning.

Meanwhile, skipper Prithvi Shaw took the onus as he made 72 runs in the second inning and stitched the stand with Jaiswal, who also made 103 runs, giving them a great start in the second inning. Following them, Aditya Tare made 57 runs while Amran Jaffer and Suved Purkar made unbeaten 17 and 6 runs before declaring their innings on 261 runs in the second inning. However, during the chase, Uttarakhand were bundled out for just 69 runs, which allowed Prithvi Shaw’s Mumbai side to win the game by 725 runs.
