Glenn Turner, who lives on the South Island of New Zealand, looks out from his residence across Lake Wanaka and goes back in time fifty years to a time when he accomplished one of the finest batting feats. However, he vividly recalls the summer of 1973, when he became the first player to get 1,000 runs before the end of May since the Second World War.

Notably, Turner’s best year was 1973, when he scored the runs for New Zealand after playing around 11 first-class games before playing the Test series against England. He was very well versed in the English conditions where he had arrived with the Kiwis back in 1973 with his contract at Worcestershire, where he played from 1968 to 1982 and scored 20,000 first-class runs, spanning 72 centuries. It seems that it was a golden era for the country when the overseas players studded every side in the whole match.

Speaking about his magnificent journey, the star cricketer played his first innings on April 24 against the DH Robins XI, while he played his last innings against the Northants on May 31. He did, however, spend the remainder of the season in Worcestershire following the Test series, finishing with 2,416 runs at an average of 67. In addition, he later went on to become the last player to score 100 first-class scores, another one that will never be repeated since he served the side as the coach and selector of the Kiwis.

Meanwhile, Glenn Turner has been known as one of the greatest batters in New Zealand cricket history and was excellent at combining aggression and caution during matches. Interestingly, he started his Test career with a duck; however, the opener went on to score seven hundred and forty-one Test matches. Turner was a notch beyond every moment owing to his knack for creating or rebuilding an inning. Meanwhile, his career’s apex was reached between 1971 and 1972, during which he struck up to four double centuries in the West Indies.
