3. 5/39 – Vic Marks vs Sri Lanka in Taunton in 1983

In the 1983 World Cup, veteran English cricketer David Gower grabbed the spotlight during the matches in the first-ever World Cup clash in Taunton. After hammering 12 fours and five sixes in just 120 balls, the star batter produced an outstanding knock of 130 runs to help England reach 333/9 off their given 60 overs. In reply, while defending, star English bowler Vic Marks helped England overcome a Sri Lankan team by 47 runs in Taunton by capturing 5/39 from his off-breaks in their response.

2. 5/48 – Tim Bresnan vs India in Bangalore in 2011

During the 2011 World Cup, both England and India played in their fourth Cricket World Cup match in Bengaluru, and both teams set the tournament milestone for the most runs recorded in this game. Notably, on that day, India captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first against the visitors. The home team posted a target of 338 runs in 50 overs. Intriguingly, English bowler Tim Bresnan grabbed a 5-wicket haul during the match, which helped the visitors restrict the home team early. In reply to that, while chasing, England required 14 runs from their final over, but they fell short of attaining the winning target by one run.

English bowling star Steven Finn created history in Melbourne at the World Cup of 2015 by becoming the first bowler from England to take a hat-trick of wickets. The home team was restricted to 342 runs following his figures of 5-71, which is the second-most expensive five-wicket haul in one-day international history. In reply, England was edged out for just 231 runs during the chase for victory, and the visitors lost their match by 111 runs. However, Finn’s effort was extraordinary and will be remembered in ODI World Cup memories.
