The Men in Blue are on a roll. They romped through the Bangladesh challenge in the fourth match of their campaign. The Indian team won yet another match in a dominating fashion and now they are sitting at the second position in the points table. Let’s take a look at some of the talking points from this clash in Pune.
#3. India’s menacing bowling attack
The Indian bowling attack has arguably been the best bowling unit in this World Cup. Once again, they proved how formidable they are. The ability to come out of tough situations has been the hallmark of the Indian bowling lineup.
Bangladesh got off to a good start as the openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan played impressive knocks. Kuldeep Yadav yet again gave the breakthrough to India as he dismissed Tanzid Hasan by catching him off guard in front of the stumps.
Once the Indians drew first blood, they were all over Bangladesh. The spin duo of Kuldeep and Jadeja continued to hunt in pairs and helped their skipper get a grip on the proceedings. This lethal spin partnership keeps giving to Team India in every match.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj were also among the wickets. Siraj dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz early in his inning whereas Jasprit Bumrah sent Mushfiqur Rahim back with a fantastic yorker and restricted Bangladesh to a chaseable total on a batting-friendly pitch in Pune. Bowlers are a key component in the Indian combination and if they keep clicking the way they are then it would be very difficult to stop the Indian juggernaut.
#2. Virat Kohli is at it, again!
The chase master showed his class against Bangladesh when he scored his 48th century, inching closer to Little Master’s record of most centuries in ODI cricket. Kohli was impressive throughout the innings and looked flawless as he led India’s charge in the chase.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a great start to India and Virat Kohli capitalized on that start, forming a strong partnership with Shubman Gill and KL Rahul at the end. Virat already had two half-centuries coming into this game and here, in Pune, he scored his first century in this World Cup. This is a great sign for team India as almost every batter is in great touch and it augurs well for the Men in Blue going ahead in the tournament.
#1. Hardik Pandya’s injury concern
The only negative out of the match between India and Bangladesh was Hardik Pandya’s injury concern. Pandya twisted his ankle in the very first over of his spell. He was immediately out of action after that incident. Pandya went for the scan and the news from the camp is that the injury is not that grave. However, the all-rounder is certainly ruled out of the New Zealand match in Dharamshala. It will be interesting to see how well the Indian team manages this setback. Shardul Thakur may have to sit out to make way for Mohammad Shami as the management would want a better bowling option in the absence of Pandya. Suryakumar Yadav will also get a look in to bolster the batting attack.
