England Cricket Team came into ODI World Cup 2023 as the defending champions. Jos Buttler and his side had just beaten New Zealand at home in a convincing fashion. With five games done in the tournament, England are more or less knocked out of the tournament.
The next stop for England is Lucknow and up against them is India who are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Rohit Sharma and his men have played five games and won each of them.
If India wins the contest they will secure a place in the semi-finals with three games left to play. If England happen to win they will win their second game of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. The defending champions will have to hope for things to go their way to have a real chance of making it to the final four.
England’s likely XI for the game against India –
Jonny Bairstow has been having a tournament to forget and it is safe to say that he might not find a place in the team on Sunday. England might include Harry Brook and ask the youngster to open.
Joe Root is likely to continue at the number three position despite his bat falling silent in the last few games. The former English skipper had begun the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament with a fine half-century versus New Zealand.
Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler would continue to bat at number four and five on Sunday. The biggest problem for the 2019 World Cup winners has been the misfiring willow of Jos Buttler. Ben Stokes was the top scorer for England versus Sri Lanka with 43 runs but hasn’t been at his best so far.
Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid will hold on to their spots in the team since Lucknow is known to be a spin friendly wicket. Sam Curran could make his way back into the team in place of Chris Woakes. The 25-year-old has a record against the Indian team and scored a memorable during England’s last visit to India.
Mark Wood and David Willey will be the fast bowling options along with Sam Curran. Gus Atkinson could also have an outside chance but two and out and out pacers in Lucknow may not be the most feasible idea for the English.
Likely England playing XI –
Harry Brook, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, David Willey, and Mark Wood.
