ODI World Cup 2023: Predicting Australia’s Playing XI for their encounter against Bangladesh

In this article we will take a look at the Possible Australia’s Playing XI. The Australians have yet again sealed their place in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup. The 5-time World Champions are peaking at the right time after a slow start in the tournament. They confirmed their knockout berth with Glenn Maxwell’s heroics in the last match against Afghanistan. Now they will be locking horns with Bangladesh in their last Group stage match with the hope of ending the group stage with a victory.

Let’s take a look at Australia’s Playing XI for the ODI World Cup 2023:

Top Order

Mitchell Marsh

Australia’s top order has delivered in the tournament so far but it was not the same case in their last match against Afghanistan. They made a change in their combination by bringing Mitchell Marsh in at No.3 in place of out-of-form Steve Smith. They would like to continue with the same as Marsh has performed well in this World Cup.

The openers David Warner and Travis Head would look to extend their form against Bangladesh before the Semi-final clash which they are likely to play against South Africa.

Middle Order

Marnus Labuschagne

Glenn Maxwell came back from injury in the last match and he was the bright spot for Australia in the middle order. Marnus Labuschagne and wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis would look to contribute more as their form will be crucial in the knockout.

There’s a tricky call that the management has to take before the knockout. Marcus Stoinis is going through a horrible run both with bat and ball. Cameron Green might be given the chance to play in Stoinis’ place as contributions from an all-rounder become mandatory to do well in high-pressure situations.

Bowling Unit

Mitchell Starc

Apart from Mitchell Starc’s lack of wickets, everything has fallen into place for the Aussie bowling attack. Starc has been expensive in this tournament and has taken only 10 wickets so far. Australia would hope that he gets back into his groove before the semi-final. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will be the other two genuine pacers.

Adam Zampa will be eager to get back to the top of the wicket-taking charts. There will be some assistance from the part-timers, Maxwell and Travis Head, as well.
