The Asia Cup is among the tournaments which have attracted a lot of fans right from its very first edition which was played in the year 1984. To date, there have been 15 editions of the tournaments played for far with India being the most successful team as they have won the title on seven different occasions. Whereas the Sri Lanka team being the second most successful team with six titles to their name.
Over the years Indian players have put together prominent performances so far in the tournament so that India can prove to be the champions for the most number of times. Here are some of the top bowling figures for the Indian players in the Asia Cup;
5/21 – Arshad Ayub vs Pakistan at Dhaka in 1988
Arshad Ayub’s career lasted just over two years. But in that short eventful time, Ayub experienced the kind of ups and downs that cricketers experience over a much longer period. But in this short span of time, he did manage to get his name on the list of the best figures for any Indian player in the competition.
It was in the Asia Cup of 1988, Ayub went on to register his best figure in the Asia Cup where he registered a figure of 5/21 in a match against Pakistan.
4/6 – Virender Sehwag vs Bangladesh at Dambulla in 2010
One of the most unlikely entries on this list, Virender Sehwag was not that much known for his bowling but whenever he bowled he proved to be a golden arm for the Indian Cricket Team. It was in the 2010 edition of the Asia Cup, where Sehwag proved his worth as a handy bowler when he registered a figure of 4/6 against Bangladesh.
4/17 – Venkatesh Prasad vs Pakistan at Colombo in 1997
Arguably, one of the quickest fast bowlers of that time who played for the Indian time in the 90s. Prasad was very well known for his controlled aggression and his ability to beat the batters with his sheer pace.
It was in the World Cup of 1997 where Prasad registered India’s third most successful bowling spell when he took 4/17 against Pakistan at Colombo.
