This remarkable spell marked his third five-wicket haul in ODI World Cups. Additionally, Shami achieved the milestone of becoming India’s top wicket-taker in the quadrennial tournament, with a total of 45 wickets from just 14 games.

In a standout performance during the 2023 ODI World Cup, Mohammed Shami showcased his skill and adaptability on a challenging pitch in Dharamsala against New Zealand. Despite being somewhat costly, Shami dismissed crucial English batsmen, including centurion Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, captain Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, and Chris Woakes. 

This achievement followed Shami’s impressive four-wicket hauls in the previous two matches, which even featured a memorable World Cup hat-trick. His final figures were 5/69 as India restricted England to 337/7 in their allotted 50 overs at Edgbaston, highlighting his pivotal role in India’s bowling attack.
