We will be looking into some of these great innings from the former Kiwi skipper who was one of the best batters in the World during the 90’s who we all have appreciated.
So, here are the top 3 best performances by Martin Crowe in Test matches:
3. 188 vs Australia in 1985
Playing against Australia was always tough, especially in the 80’s and this was one of the best performances from Martin Crowe in Test matches. After The Aussies were bowled out for 179 Martin Crowe alongside John Reid formed a great partnership where he got the team to 553 in the first innings. Crowe ended up scoring 188 runs in just 328 deliveries which made sure the Aussies had a daunting task ahead of them at the Gabba.
2. 188 vs West Indies in 1985
This was a match which proved how impactful and dangerous of a batter Martin Crowe was and this time was against the mighty West Indian pace attack. The Caribbean Giants already put up a big total of 511 on the board as the Kiwis were struggling at 98-4. However, the lethal West Indian pacer was in for a surprise with Crowe at the crease. Crowe went on to score 188 from 462 balls which might have not got New Zealand the lead but was enough to ensure a draw and save the Test match for his side.
1. 299 vs Sri Lanka in 1991
This was perhaps one of the best innings from Martin Crowe who was also the New Zealand skipper at the time. This was against a solid Sri Lankan side as well who made life difficult for the Kiwis at Wellington. However, the skipper comes to the rescue playing one of his most iconic Test knocks scoring 299 from 523 deliveries to make sure he saved the unwinnable Test match for his team. This was a real captain’s knock from Crowe and was perhaps the best innings in a Test match by a Kiwi batter.
