Kolkata Knight Riders’ top three highest scores in Indian Premier League

The mere mention of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) brings about visuals of their amazing fan support. Gautam Gambhir during his time as the skipper had made the unit one of the best teams in the league.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) wins in 2012 and 2014, Kolkata Knight Riders were seen as the major force to challenge Chennai and Mumbai. Over the last few years, the team has fallen off the pedestal and is struggling to reach its former glory.

In this article, we take a closer look at the top three totals by Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

KKR 222/3 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – IPL 2008

vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Brendon McCullum and KKR decided to create history in the first game of the IPL in 2008. The former Kiwi skipper took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners to smash 158 not out off 73 balls. His innings contained 10 fours and 13 sixes as Kolkata Knight Riders scored 222/3 from their 20 overs.

The next highest for KKR on that day was Ricky Ponting who scored 20. Chasing 223 to win, Bangalore were bowled out for 82 with Praveen Kumar top scoring with 18 runs. A very young Virat Kohli batting at number three was out for 1 run.

KKR 232/2 vs Mumbai Indians – IPL 2019

vs Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first and immediately regretted the call. Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill pulverized the Mumbai bowling unit to add 96 runs for the 1st wicket in just under 10 overs. Shubman Gill scored 76 runs and Chris Lynn scored 54 runs with the bat.

If Mumbai thought the misery was over, sadly they were wrong as Andre Russell did more damage. The West Indian all-rounder hit 80 runs off 40 balls with six fours and 8 massive sixes. KKR reached 232 from their 20 overs and won the game by 34 runs despite Hardik Pandya scoring 91.

KKR 245/6 vs Punjab Kings – IPL 2018

vs Punjab Kings

Sunil Narine came into the IPL known as a bowler but Gautam Gambhir successfully turned him into a batter. The man from Trinidad scored 75 runs while Dinesh Karthik scored 50 to help their side reach an imposing 245/6. The small boundaries at the Holkar Stadium in Indore saw over 450 runs being scored that day as KKR won by 31 runs.
