In the last decade or so South Africa has dominated international cricket and an all-rounder from Cape Town was instrumental in making the South African team a dominant force, JP Duminy’s. Duminy was very important for the South African team with his all-round skills as he could contribute both with his batting and clever bowling. He is mostly remembered for his exploits in limited overs format but Duminy played some remarkable knocks in Test cricket as well. Let’s take a look at his top 3 knocks in test cricket for South Africa.
#1. 166 vs Australia, 2008
JP Duminy played this world-class knock in the very second test of his career against a strong opposition like Australia and that too in their backyard. The occasion and the setting were special as was this knock from JP Duminy. He made this century in the Boxing Day test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
South Africa won this match by 9 wickets and Duminy’s 166 runs in the first innings played a huge role in putting the Proteas in a comfortable position. Duminy’s knock helped the Proteas get a healthy lead in the first innings and they built on this lead to get to a memorable victory.
#2. 155 vs Sri Lanka, 2017
This beautiful century from Duminy came in the very later phase of his career against Sri Lanka at Johannesburg. In the first innings of the third test match of the series, Duminy stitched a massive partnership with Hashim Amla to extract the Proteas from the early scars. South Africa lost two early wickets but Duminy and Hashim Amla acted as bulwark to the Sri Lankan bowling onslaught. As a result of it, South Africa scored 426 runs in the first innings which proved to be too much for the Sri Lankans. South Africa won this match by an innings and 118 runs.
#3. 141 vs Australia, 2016
Another masterclass from Duminy in a winning cause against the mighty Aussies. The all-rounder always rose to the big occasions. He scored this century in the first test match of the series at Perth. South Africa could not take a lead in the first innings and they needed a strong batting display in the second innings to make the Australians toil hard. South Africa scored 540 runs in the second innings and Duminy’s century had a huge contribution in that. Eventually, South Africa won the match by a huge margin of 177 runs.
