IPL: Top highest successful chases by Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) have been taking part in the Indian Premier League for 16 years and have failed to win the championship even once. They reached the final in 2021 losing to a Mumbai Indians side that had a very balanced squad.

Delhi Capitals have had some of the most amazing batters in their squad over the years with the likes of AB de Villiers, David Warner, Virendra Sehwag, Sanju Samson and some of these guys have been involved in high scoring thrillers. Let’s take a look at the top 3 highest successful chases by Delhi Capitals.

3) 196 runs vs Delhi Capitals (2017)

Gujarat Lions, who had only won once in their previous twelve tries to bat first during their two year IPL tenure, scored 195 runs versus Delhi Daredevils, however their inconsistent bowling attack failed once more on a big stage. 

In their previous match, Delhi’s young Indian players, notably Pant as well as Samson, scored 143 runs in 63 balls to win. But this time around, Delhi lost wickets when chasing this total at Green Park, but thanks to captain Shreyas Iyer’s 96, they were able to rally from 121-6 and go on to win the game.

2) 198 runs vs Punjab Kings (2021)

Shikhar Dhawan’s outstanding 92 off 49 balls helped Delhi Capitals defeat Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium by six wickets in a high-scoring encounter. The Capitals knocked down an uphill battle of 195 for 4 despite an excellent beginning by Mayank Agarwal with KL Rahul, who hit half-century scores during their 122-run opening stand.

The 195 score even though looked challenging but considering the dew on the Wankhede pitch and two explosive batters fighting for their team’s two points, the task was made easier. Shikhar Dhawan alongside Prithvi Shaw got the squad off to a strong start by putting up 59 runs in just 33 balls.

1) 209 runs vs Gujarat Lions (2017)

With a necessary rate of less than one run per ball for the last five overs, the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) easily completed the 209-run chase. They had the charming and young duo of Sanju Samson (61 from 31) and local star Rishabh Pant (97 from 43) who each smashed four consecutive sixes during the game. 

Gujarat Lions were eliminated from the playoffs as a result of their record-breaking 31 boundaries, 20 of which were hit by these two Delhi Daredevils batters. This run-chase was simply spectacular and is amongst one of the highest chases in the history of the Indian Premier League.
