IPL: Top 3 most expensive Delhi Capitals players in history

Delhi Capitals is one of those franchises that have been part of the IPL since 2008. For the first few seasons from 2008 to 2018, the team was named Delhi Daredevils.

Ahead of the 2019 season, the change in team ownership led to it being rechristened as Delhi Capitals. Over the years, the team has seen quite a lot, from qualifying for playoffs consistently to finishing at the bottom.

Meanwhile, during these games, a lot of great players have played for the team. While the team is looking for its maiden title till now, the team used to be filled with a lot of superstars for a while. In this listicle, we will discuss the three most expensive players to play for India’s national-capital based side.

Three most expensive players for Delhi Capitals

The two-time World Cup winner for India played for the team in 2015 season. At the time, he became the most expensive player in the history of the league as he was signed for 16 crores INR. Singh held the record till 2021 before Chris Morris broke it.

Meanwhile, this also makes him the most expensive player for the Capitals. The left-hander had a forgettable season with the bat and shifted his base to Sunrisers Hyderabad the very next year.

2. Rishabh Pant

The regular skipper of the team has been part of his home franchise since the 2017 IPL. Last year, he became the joint-costliest player as he was retained for 16 crores ahead of the mega auction. Currently, he is not playing the game due to a near fatal accident late last year.

In Pant’s absence, the team is being led by David Warner. In the ongoing tournament, the team has lost their first five games, something which happened after quite a few years.

3. Dinesh Karthik

In the 2014 mega auction, Karthik made his comeback after getting 12.5 crores INR, making him one of the costliest players of the season.

He only played for one season before shifting to Royal Challengers Bangalore, followed by his stint with the now-defunct Gujarat Lions for the next two seasons. Last year, he made a comeback in the RCB side and continues to play for the team.
