 IPL: Top 3 highest successful chases in Dharamsala

Throughout the 16 years of IPL, there have been so many high-run chases which have helped the teams to register famous victories. Chasing a big total is a tricky task but in IPL we have seen teams achieve a huge target. However, HPCA Stadium stadium in Dharmshala is a ground where its not easy to chase big total as per the stats. In this article, we will  have a look at the top three run chases in Dharmashala in IPL history. 

DC chased 142 against PBKS, IPL 2012

In match number 69 of IPL 2023, Punjab Kings batted first and posted a total of 141 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Siddharth Chitnis (38 off 32) and Azhar Mahmood (36 off 38) put up a partnership of 57 runs for the fifth wicket and helped the team to recover from the early collapse of 4 wickets for 20 runs. Morne Morkel took 4 wickets conceding 20 runs in his four overs.

Chasing the winning total, David Warner and Unmukt Chand gave a flying start to DC by adding 82 runs for the first wicket in nine overs. Warner got out after playing a splendid knock of 79 runs off 44 balls hitting knock 10 fours and four sixes. DC chased the winning total in 18.2 overs losing 4 wickets.

Deccan Chargers chased 175 against PBKS, IPL 2010

The second name in the list is of the former team who have clinched the title in 2009. In 2010, Deccan Chargers chased the second-highest successful total in Dharmshala as they scored 178 runs losing 5 wickets against Punjab Kings. 

Batting first, PBKKS posted a total of 174 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara were the main anchors of the first. The Sri Lankan duo company put up a partnership of 86 runs for the second wicket. Sangakkara got out after scoring 52 runs off 37 balls hitting nine fours and a six. While Jayawardene remained unbeaten on 93 runs off 62 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. 

Chasing the winning total, DC lost 2 wickets for 54 runs. After that, Tirumalasetti Suman and Rohit Sharma took charge of the innings as they added 66 runs for the third wicket. Suman got out after scoring 43 runs off 31 balls, while Rohit remained unbeaten on 68 runs off 38 balls hitting six fours and three sixes as DC chased the winning total in 19.1 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

CSK chased 193 against PBKS, IPL 2010

Chennai Super Kings come top on the list for chasing the highest successful total in Dharmshala. CSK registered a famous victory in match number 54 of IPL 2010 which become more famous after MS Dhoni’s aggressive celebration after winning the match.

Batting first, PBKS posted a total of 192 runs for the loss of 3 wickets, powered by Shaun Marsh’s unbeaten knock of 88 runs from 57 deliveries hitting eight fours and five sixes.Chasing the winning total, CSK kept taking the  run chase forward with Suresh Raina’s 46 runs and S Badrinath’s 53-run knock.

The match went down to the last over where CSK needed 16 runs to win with the skipper Dhoni on strike. Dhoni smashed a boundary on the first ball of the over. After that he took a double and in the next two deliveries, Dhoni smashed back-to-back sixes as CSK registered a famous victory. The CSK skippet remained unbeaten on 54 runs off 29 balls five fours and two sixes as CSK chased the winning total in 19.4 overs with 6 wickets in hand.
