The Purple Cap award is given to the highest wicket taker in the IPL competitions across seasons. Across 15 completed seasons, only two players have won it twice with one of them winning two back-to-back times. Meanwhile, during every season, the cap revolves around the players who lead the wickets charts every season. The player who ends up getting the most wickets takes the award home.
While there have been some experienced players who have done, there have been some young players who weren’t behind. In this listicle, we will discuss the three youngest players to win Purple Cap award.
Three youngest players to win Purple Cap award
1. Sohail Tanvir
The former Pakistan international played for Rajasthan Royals in the 2008 season. That was the only season when Pakistani players featured in the league. Meanwhile, the left-arm bowler took 22 wickets and aged only 24 at the time.
His side ended up beating what went on to become the second-most successful side of the league, Chennai Super Kings in the final. This is the only IPL title won by the Royals.
2. R.P Singh
The 2007 20-20 World Cup winner played for now-defunct Deccan Chargers in the first three seasons (2008 to 2010). In what was their maiden title winning season (2009), Singh was the best bowler of the season with 23 wickets.
At the time, he was only 24 years old. The Hyderabad-based side won the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are yet to win a title despite playing three finals and five playoff games.
3. Pragyan Ojha
Another former India player had his formative years with the Chargers (from 2008 to 2011). In the 2010 season when the team was looking to defend their title, the former left-arm spinner took 21 wickets and was 24 years old at the time.
However, the team failed to defend their title as they lost the semifinal to eventual title winners, CSK. Also, they lost the third place game to RCB to miss out on the now-defunct Champions League T20 tournament in South Africa, won by CSK too.
